Thank you to everyone who joined us this weekend for our alumni production of A Little Night Music. It was our most successful Summer show yet, with box office takings almost double those of last year. More than 400 of you packed the beautiful Münsterhof despite the scorching Summer heat both inside and outside. If you thought you were warm in the stalls, spare a thought for our cast who spent hours singing and dancing in three-piece suits, military uniforms, and full-length ballgowns! We couldn’t have asked for a warmer welcome though (figuratively speaking) and our performers loved every minute of being back on stage. All three performances of our Summer Alumni production of A Little Night Music are now sold out! If you failed to secure a ticket, don’t despair! The Saturday night show will be recorded for you to watch at your leisure at a later date. Now it’s time to “Break a Leg,” as they say in the theater business, or for “Merde” as they might say in France. Enjoy the show!

Some years ago, a YouTube channel called @youngactorstheaterstrasbou1994 was created and used to upload YATS videos. It contains recordings from 2021, including our lockdown Zoom choir performances and a behind-the-scenes video from the very first (outdoor) rehearsal of Oklahoma, our first public production after Covid restrictions. The problem is that nobody on the current YATS team knows who created the channel or has access to it anymore. As a result, we’ve had to start again with a new YouTube channel: @yatstrasbourg. BUT – two YATS channels are not better than one! We’d still love to regain access to the original channel if we can. It might be summer, but YATS certainly hasn’t disappeared! If you’ve been following us on TikTok, YouTube, Instagram or Facebook, you’ll know we’ve been busier than ever. Right now, rehearsals are in full swing for A Little Night Music at the Munsterhof next weekend. It’s a demanding show, so the cast have been putting in the hours to do it justice. The cast is packed with familiar faces from past YATS shows. Every performer is a YATS alum—meaning they may not be quite as Young as they once were, indeed some even have university degrees now! I’m Henry Neff, I’m a multimedia artist and I had the great pleasure of designing the poster for this year’s performance, The Music Man! YATS has been a huge part of my life since I was twelve when I joined the cast of Annie Jr., the very first musical YATS ever put on. From the very beginning I loved the culture of passionate individuals working together to put on a great show in a fun and creative environment. Since then, I have performed in 10 shows and volunteered backstage in 2 more, and I’m thrilled that I’m able to keep participating in ways such as designing the poster for this upcoming show. First came our pre-audition workshops, where 70 local young performers joined us to practice singing and acting as well as learn the audition dance routine and harmonies for The Music Man. A few days later, 18 kids took part in our audition masterclass, working on their songs and performance skills before dancing their socks off once again. Then came audition weekend itself, with 90 young performers singing, acting and dancing in front of our jury, all hoping to win a place in the cast of this Autumn’s show. This week, some were invited back for call-backs to audition for specific parts, and we’re now almost ready to announce who’s playing who in the show (but not just yet). Our Young Actors had an extraordinary weekend on stage with three sold-out performances of Working, a show that gave each of our talented performers a chance to step into the spotlight to show us what they could do. We laughed, we cried, and we cheered the flawless acting, singing, and dancing. You could tell everyone had been putting their heart and soul into rehearsing since the workshop began, back in December. The hard graft was worth it in the end. The applause, a just reward!
