Some of the most wonderful colors on stage came straight from the imaginations and nimble fingers of our incredible YATS hat-making volunteers! Without question, the gloriously extravagant creations for the Pick-a-Little Ladies really helped bring River City to life.
A dedicated team transformed regular period hats into extravagant, over-the-top creations exploding with personality. Five of our leading ladies wore the most fabulous of these wild things on their heads, adorned with feathers, fruit, and all sorts of imaginative embellishments that brought a riot of color to the stage!
The team scoured Strasbourg’s shops, searched online, and even explored dusty Parisian boutiques to find just the right materials to match each costume. Actors, moms, and enthusiastic volunteers spent a weekend together dreaming up designs and crafting their magic. The fine detail and finishing touches took several weeks, however (including working out how to prevent such enormous contraptions from falling off of our actor’s heads!)
What’s more, the base hats had to be carefully covered and protected so they could be returned to our partners at TNS and Tagora in their original shape and condition. Creativity, with care! A huge thank-you to the entire hat-making team for their imagination, dedication, and wonderfully wild handiwork.
