Fiddler on the Roof is centered around Tevye, a poor milkman, and his family in the fictional village of Anatevka. It explores the tension between tradition and change as Tevye’s daughters challenge his decisions and the social norms.

Fiddler on the Roof also provides a poignant exploration of migration, persecution, and the preservation of cultural identity, making it resonate with the issues faced by migrants and refugees, including those affected by the war in Ukraine, where the village of Anatevka could have been. This year, YATS will approach the question of migration as part of its production of the musical Fiddler on the Roof. In that context, YATS invites you to attend a conference dedicated to the topic of migration, with a particular focus on the situation in Europe and the consequences of the Ukrainian refugees’ crisis.

Mr Mykola Gnatovskyy, judge of the European Court of Human Rights, elected with respect of Ukraine, and Ms Anne Kayser-Attuil, adviser at the Office of the Council of Europe Secretary General’s Special Representative on migration and refugees will present the current challenges in today’s Ukraine, the impact of the war, particularly in relation to migration and the European answers to the migration context. Ms Josiane Woods, English literature teacher and head of the Anglophone Section, Lycée International des Pontonniers, will moderate this event.

Seating is limited. For enrollment, please send an e-mail to: 2023YATSconference@gmail.com
