Come join the fun! Tickets for the fall performances of Shrek the Musical! will be available starting from Monday, 5 August for YATS Members and Monday, 12 August for general public. There will be five performances, 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20 October 2024, at Le Point d’Eau in Ostwald.

Shrek the Musical is based on the DreamWorks film and uses heart and irreverent humor to show the importance of looking past outward appearances to find what truly matters. Filled with great songs and a genuinely funny script, this show is a crowd-pleaser for audiences of all ages!

“Bonjour! Je suis Bart. As well as being the newest member of the YATS Executive Board, I’m currently the Assistant Director at Syracuse University, Strasbourg. However, somewhat implausibly, my background is more creative. I used to work as a photographer, graphic designer, and filmmaker, I’m an amateur fringe-theater playwright and (a long time ago) I trod the boards with French comedy group Quai des Prunes.”

“I first became a member of YATS in 2018, when my eldest son started his first workshop. Since then, our whole family have progressively become ‘YATS addicts’, culminating in all five of us getting involved in Fiddler on the Roof last year, with three children on stage, my wife Tara in charge of costumes backstage, and me overseeing website, ticketing and ushering duties. I work closely with Bob and Karen on the website, but you may have been served by me at the bar or run into me as I’m delivering gluten-free baked goods to the refreshment stand before the show. Volunteering to help on a YATS show has always been side-splittingly fun. You get to meet other playful parents from around Strasbourg, returning YATS graduates (often hairy), and even YATS groupies! Happy faces and contagious laughter are everywhere. At the end of the day though, it’s all about sharing the joy of our talented young performers as they step into the Spotlight (see what I did there?).”

Past productions: Annie Jr. / Seussical Jr /Beauty and the Beast / Fame Jr/ Anything Goes / How to Succeed

Where are they now? “I am studying physical therapy (kinésithérapie) in Strasbourg, and I still have two more years to go before getting my diploma. Beyond my studies, the music never stops! I am part of an accordion orchestra and I have started learning the bass guitar as a hobby. My guilty pleasure is doing karaoke nights in my room once in a while!”

As for Zoé and her YATS experience: “I have been involved in YATS from the very beginning so have a LOT of memories from it, but if I had to choose one, it would be my first-ever audition. I was only ten years old and it was for Annie Jr., where I had gotten the role of Annette, and convinced myself that she was Annie’s sister. Then I cried because she was actually one of Daddy Warbucks’ maids! … But in the end it was amazing.”

Zoé continued, “YATS means the world to me, as I’ve been involved in it for more than half of my life. I met most of my friends there, had the chance to express my passion in the best way possible on stage, and most of all it was so much fun! You may catch me behind the curtain for Shrek the Musical, helping with hair and makeup and giving emotional support to my fellow actors when I can.”

YATS is excited to announce the creation of the following volunteer roles: Logistics Manager, Sound Manager and Lighting Manager. In addition, very shortly there will be many opportunities for the upcoming fall musical. Job descriptions and ways to help at Shrek the Musical can be found here. This is a great opportunity to become more involved in YATS activities and to learn new skills in a friendly and relaxed environment. Training and coaching can be provided.

We still need a last push to cross the “finish line” to our goal of raising €15,000 for much-needed sound equipment and new microphones. Donations can still be made and would help us reach our target. Details can be found here. Great progress was made by the technical team on the new microphones as the countdown to Shrek the Musical is on. Thanks to the team for the long hours last weekend!
